These championships are held in each region during the month of October and the results consolidated.
A low turnout - only 176 swimmers entered - even less than last year.
Well done to Cape Town, the winning club, followed by Coelacanth and East Coast. The same procedure as last year!
Please note that any SAMS record or SAMS Colours qualifying time achievement shown in the results only implies that the existing record or qualifying time was equalled or bettered. The record or qualification still has to be applied for and ratified in the normal manner - see Records page for procedure.

Sanderina Kruger breaks Individual World Records four times - Plus one in the Mixed 4x50m Freestyle Relay 240-279 with Calvin Maughan, Di Coetzee & Tim Shead.

Tim Shead broke 3 World Records, but as he was swimming for a USA club he was not eligible to set any SAMS records. In the medal stakes he claimed 3 Golds and 2 Silvers. One of his second places was under the World Record and the other was under the Championship Record.
3Km Open Water (13 SAMS swimmers entered and swam):
Silver Medals for Tarryn Stanford (CPTW) and Phil Emslie (CPTW).
Bronze Medals for Heather Campbell (EACS) and Tyron Venter (PHOE).

Tim Shead, who won all 5 of his
permitted events, broke the World Record in 4 of them. The only one which
eluded him (100m Backstroke) is held by Gary Hall who medalled in the
Olympics in 1968, 1972 & 1976.

but unfortunately was pipped at the
